Black Friday—Amazon reports record UK sales: BBC News reports on a record-breaking Black Friday for online retailer Amazon. Amazon UK sold more than 7.4m items, with other online retailers experiencing site issues due to high demand. Last year’s Black Friday saw shoppers in the UK fighting over bargains in some stores, leading some retailers to hire extra security staff over the weekend to prevent a repeat. Amazon shows off new prototype delivery drone: Madhumita Murgiaat at The Telegraph reports that Amazon has launched a video showing off its new prototype drone, an unmanned aerial vehicle which can get packages to customers within 30 minutes. The drone is part of Amazon’s future delivery system known as Prime Air, where several different drones will be deployed for package deliveries. The video is narrated by Jeremy Clarkson who says, Amazon is designing a “whole family of drones, different designs for different environments.” Continue reading…
Amazon’s latest idea could totally transform your living room: Lisa Eadicicco at TIME reports that Amazon has recently granted a patent for a system that could map a physical room in 3-D, then project images to make the space look and feel like a different environment. You’d be able to interact with these images using your voice, gestures, or touch. The setup would consist of a light source, a shutter mechanism, a reflector, and a camera, according to the patent. Amazon updates its Fire tablet to make it better for night readers: Micah Singleton at The Verge reports that Amazon studies have revealed the blue light emitted from its Fire Tablet can alter sleep patterns and suppress melatonin production if viewed at night.
