Amazon revenue growth

Amazon has around 237m customer accounts globally and is one of the world’s most valuable brands. With net sales in the US in 2013 of $74.45bn, the company has continued to go from strength to strength.

Quarterly Revenue

Amazon’s steady growth in revenue from 2007 up to quarter two in 2014 is nicely illustrated in the graph below. In Q4 2013, the eCommerce giant generated a total revenue of $25.59 bn, up from $21.27 bn in Q4 of the previous year. It is expected to rise again in Q4 of 2014, as forecasters predict a record year for eCommerce.

Global Audience Reach

Amazon has strong global appeal as shown in the bar chart below with 79% of UK internet users accessing Amazon via its websites or app in Q2 of 2014. Other strong markets include Germany and US with 75% and 72% of internet uses accessing the site respectively.

These results only reinforce the need for retailers to consider Amazon as a viable online channel for their sales. In fact many would argue it could be the first and only online channel for many due to the low cost of entry and huge customer base, however, those entering the market should always be aware of the need for repricing software to keep prices competitive 24/7. Without such software, it becomes difficult to keep your inventory visible to sellers since Amazon will favour competitive prices.
