Amazon launches collection points at Next stores: BBC News reports that Amazon has launched a service for customers to collect parcels from pick-up points inside Next shops. The new service is called Amazon Counter, and Next said its participation would help the chain stay relevant in a tough retail environment. Amazon is now selling Google’s Pixel 3A and 3A XL: Chris Welch at The Verge reports that for the first time ever, Amazon is directly selling one of Google’s Pixel phones — two of them, actually. The leading online retailer has begun offering the Pixel 3A and 3A XL at their respective $399 and $479 price points. These are “sold by Amazon.com” in the US, not by a third-party Amazon seller. Amazon started building its $1.5 billion airport, with Jeff Bezos taking the controls of a front loader to begin the work: Mark Hanbury at Business Insider reports that Amazon broke ground on its $1.5 billion airport development in Cincinnati, Kentucky. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos made a surprise appearance at the opening, hopping aboard a front loader to lift the first pile of dirt. Amazon makes $1bn a month as growth slows: Dominic Rushe at The Guardian reports Amazon reported a profit of $3.6bn for the three months ending 31 March as sales reached $59.7bn. Profits were more than double last year’s and the company has now recorded four straight quarters in a row of record profits. Amazon’s growth, however, appears to be slowing, according to its latest earnings statement. In North American revenues grew 17% increase, compared with 46% growth last year, while international growth dropped to just 9%, down from 34% for the same period last year. Continue reading…
