Game of Thrones: Amazon error as the second episode is uploaded early: BBC News reports that the latest episode of Game of Thrones was uploaded to Amazon early due to an “error”. The second instalment of the eighth and final series was not supposed to be broadcast until Sunday evening. But some Amazon Prime members were able to watch it several hours before that. “We regret that for a short time Amazon customers in Germany were able to access episode two of season eight of Game of Thrones,” an Amazon spokesman said. Amazon battles slowing Prime uptake in the UK: Hannah Boland at The Telegraph reports that less than half a million Brits are expected to sign up to Amazon Prime this year, new research has suggested, as the tech giant battles growing competition from US rival Netflix. Estimates compiled by Ovum show that UK subscriber numbers for Amazon’s on-demand delivery and streaming service, Prime, have grown almost 400pc in the past seven years, from 1.1 million users in 2011 to 5.3 million in 2018. Kohl’s is going to accept Amazon returns in all of its stores across the country, starting in July: Lauren Thomas at CNBC reports that Kohl’s on Tuesday announced it will start accepting returns for items purchased on Amazon at all of its stores across the country, starting in July. Its shares surged more than 8% in early trading on the news. This marks an extension of a partnership between Kohl’s and Amazon that dates to the spring of 2017, when Kohl’s began selling Amazon gadgets — like its smart-home products — at some stores, and started handling Amazon returns at about 80 locations. Amazon Alexa team can access users’ home addresses: Bloomberg reports that an Amazon team auditing Alexa users’ commands has access to location data and can, in some cases, easily find a customer’s home address, according to five employees familiar with the program. The team spread across three continents, transcribes, annotates and analyses a portion of the voice recordings picked up by Alexa. Continue reading…
Amazon opens Key delivery to garages: Brian Heater at TechCrunch reports that starting today, Amazon can drop off packages to your garage. Assuming, of course, you’re cool with that. The massively multiplayer online retailer just expanded its Key delivery options to include garage, a feature it announced at the beginning of the year at CES. Customers will have to opt-in, of course. And the whole thing requires a specific kind of garage door that uses myQ technology. Continue reading…
